Starting The Day Off Right

Diet is fundamental in pursuing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. There is a lot of discussion around what the most important meal of the day is, what foods to eat and how regularly you should eat. To start off with the basics, breakfast is the most important meal of the day for many reasons. Overnight, your body undergoes a fast (hence the name break-fast) so it needs fuel to repair, heal and energy to function throughout the day. The nutrients offered by a good breakfast will cover all three and will benefit you greatly throughout the day. The best and most beneficial breakfasts we would recommend are a superfood smoothie, porridge or an egg based breakfast. The one that stands out to us the most would be a superfood smoothie. If you get the balance right your smoothie should cover all the nutrients your body needs to start off the day right. You should be looking to include foods that contain good sources of protein, healthy fats, anti-oxidants and high levels of fibre. Consuming a superfood smoothie makes it easy for you to include all the nutrients your body needs in such a straightforward and convenient way. A simple recipe would be almond milk which contains a lot of healthy fats, eggs or whey protein of a good standard (My Protein’s Impact Whey Protein) which contain a rich level of protein, seeds such as sunflower/pumpkin seeds which contain high levels of fibre, and foods rich in anti-oxidants such as fresh berry’s which again are crucial. These ingredients also offer a wide range of vitamins. At breakfast time you are basically looking to get as many nutrients into your body which in return will reduce the risk of you snacking and eating unnecessary meals throughout the day thus allowing your body to function to its maximum potential. For this reason, breakfast is known to be one of the main contributors to weight loss.

That being said, we all love the odd binge at breakfast time, our choice would be a fry on a Saturday morning! We would recommend trying to keep it as healthy as possible and move away from the processed meat that supermarket chains have to offer. Buying your foods from a local butchers such as Kerrigans, who offer a wide range of healthier alternatives such as fresh turkey sausages, turkey rashers, and free range eggs or bottled egg whites will benefit your diet immensely. This is just another small adjustment you can make to improve your diet step by step.

Having a good breakfast will help you enjoy the rest of your meals throughout the day. By the time your breakfast digests, your metabolism will be in full swing and will be less inclined to eat unnecessary snacks. At Foods For Fitness we are trying to develop products that fit into this healthy eating category, meals that are straightforward and easy to make. Whether you’re looking to bulk up or lose weight, it is important to get the basics right. DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST!
